FridayMornings@SELMA invites you to pull up a chair and share your vision for the future of food.

Needless to say, we have been trying to get Brandon Johns over here to feed us since before there even was a Grange Kitchen and Bar.  Maybe things have settled in just enough over there, now that they have been open for about a year, so that he can treat us to a breakfast featuring a couple items from his new brunch menu.

  • Pork confit hash with a fried egg, wilted greens.
  • Pan-fried corn cakes with a peach ginger compote, sautéed greens and bacon

The Grange (thanks again to some mighty generosity) where we will be launching the Farmer Fund on Sunday August 26th.  Many more details and please to support to follow!

Don't forget our fruit seasonal regular breakfast choices: Waffles with peaches or blueberries and…… Lisa’s peach bread pudding (oh my are the peaches good this year).

Lot’s o’ news, with some really fun things to do:

Even more news regarding The Grange and us Selma folk:  Real Time Farms has launched its “restaurant finder feature” (linking right to the source of all that local farm goodness) and will feature Selma Café and the Grange as a couple of the first.  We are listed here, with lot’s of info about where we get our food.  Thank you Karl and Cara!

Oh, did I mention that our swag is in?  You best be sportin’ if you want to be hip in this here burg.  Shirts, bags, aprons and stickers so far.

Yo volunteers!!  --  Summer Hoop builds are here!

We are building hoops with breakfast proceeds this August and September.  We will be building hoops for:

·        Done!! ---  August 14th - Fox and Janet Addelman of Portage River Farm in Pinkney (a monster 30’x144 footer).  Though we are pulling plastic on this baby Thursday morning (as in now!) bright and early.  Email Fox if you can come out, or just jump in the van with me (that’s Jeff)

·        This is the one we need you to sign up for next --- August 28th - Jennifer Kangas of Capella Farm on Scio Church Rd.  A standard 30x96 midwall.  Volunteer sign up is now online.  We will be partying hardy after the build to celebrate all of our volunteers.  You don’t want to miss this one.

·        September 25th - Shannon Brines (Brines Farm) in Dexter – sign up sheet will be up soon for this one.

Holler Fest 2010 is here!  -this weekend, a three-day festival on Frog Holler Farm, supporting local musicians, sharing local food, and building local community!  Over thirty performers, organic meals from the farm, camping, lots of kid's activities, guided nature walks, yoga/t'ai chi.  Our own little low-key Woodstock – local-foods style.  Lisa and I will be there, camping all weekend, and serving up breakfast Saturday.  Lisa will be teaching yoga as well.  Oh, and look for a wandering Selma Café cookie vendor.  Not to be missed.

Salsa Canning Work Day: Sunday, August 22nd  Preserving Traditions will host a salsa canning work day from 1-5pm on August 22nd. We'll work together to turn tomatoes, onions, garlic, and peppers into five or six gallons of salsa (some hot, some mild). We'll contribute the ingredients collectively - ideally, from our own gardens - and split the finished salsa among us to stock our pantries for winter!

There are a few requirements you can check out at the above link.
$5 or free for Grange members

Donald from the AAFF would like you to know about a 5 week sustainability film series that starts this Wednesday with ‘The Real Dirt on Farmer John”.  Richard from Tantre as will as Annie and Paul form the community Farm will speak after the film.  Too much fun!

HomeGrown Festival is getting onto our radar.  September 11, 2010.  The shirts and buttons are amazing.  Now check out a little video of me blathering on about it in our driveway, a picture of Lisa’s piehole toss from last year and so much more in Corinna Borden’s piece in the dot com.

Please consider penciling in our first fundraiser: Sunday September 26th form 5 – 8pm.  We will be launching the Farmer Fund (a way for folks in the community to be able to co-lend on all of our building projects) at this fundraiser event at Grange Kitchen and Bar.  You can register here.

$50 – Brandon’s finest finger food and Michigan bubbly.
